We are not the usual book-writing types and, on the face of it, we have nothing in common except our lack of qualifications, fame or notoriety and the fact that we were both born in the same year – 1950.
Alan is a man born in Coventry, in the Midlands of England, to a working class family. He was destined, like his father, to work in the engineering industry in Coventry. Indeed, his early adulthood was spent working in engineering until boredom and restlessness moved him on.
Micheline is a woman, born near London where her early life was shaped by the experience of disability, keeping her corralled in the segregated world of ‘special needs’ and then as a trainee graphic illustrator, until boredom and restlessness moved her on.
We are two very different people bought together by our common desire to see a systemic, political change in the way we organise ourselves globally. We believe human life could be so much better than it is and that this better world is worth striving for.
